DESCRIPTION The Rocky Mountain National Watermedia (RMNW) exhibition, in its 41st year, is presented by Foothills Art Center in Golden, Colorado. This is a highly competitive juried exhibition and Foothills Art Center encourages artists to submit work that is appropriate for display in a fine arts institution.
Artwork will be selected based on content, composition, and technique. Artists are encouraged to choose subject matter carefully and avoid clichéd imagery. RMNW attracts entrants and jurors from throughout the United States, and is regarded as one of the top watermedia exhibitions in the country.
FOOTHILLS ART CENTER In 2013, Foothills Art Center (FAC) celebrated its 45th anniversary. Located in historic downtown Golden, Colorado, Foothills Art Center (FAC) was created for, and is devoted to, leading and inspiring the community through art, education and cultural excellence. FAC was founded in 1968, and is housed in a former First Presbyterian church constructed by pioneers in the Gothic style (1872), and a Victorian mansion built by Perre O. Unger (1899). The buildings are both works of art themselves, and are official members on the United States National Registry of Historic Buildings.

Classes:
From Ed Penniman at the Santa Cruz Art League:
As part of the First Friday hosting, SCAL will again feature a live costumed model in out back classroom with artists working. I would like SCWCS to be part of that component. People are interested in seeing art in action. I have an Afro Cuban model in a Samba costume who will be modeling between 630 and 900. The Japanes model with a kimono and the Tahitian Model was well received. This model will be very colorful and fun to paint. Please join in if you can.
Best regards, Ed PS: The following FF models will be Mexican Folkloric in May followed by a Ballet dancer in June at the 84th Statewide. That will be the end of the multicultural model series.

Watercolor – Thursday Santa Cruz Art League:
Foundations of Watercolor It is true, possibly…that watercolor requires more knowledge of the paints than other media. However, I believe it’s a fallacy that it is the most difficult medium! Come and learn the basics with a seasoned teacher of 40 years (wow! am I really that old?). We will review color theory and how it applies to watercolor. You will practice the techniques of wet into wet, washes, glazing, creating hard and soft edges. You will learn the most important tools for watercolor and you will see for yourself that most errors are repairable. At the end you will have 3 or 4 small finished projects to mat and frame, not to mention and have had a whole lot of fun. Oh yes, I am ALL about painting and fun!! Bring a lunch. Jo-Neal comes to us with 40 years of teaching experience, more than 20 of them working for Santa Cruz City Schools. She began painting in watercolor 25 years ago, then returned to school so that she could teach painting and art at the secondary level. During that year’s leave she studied fresco painting and restoration, serigraphy and oils in Florence, Italy. Her first love will always be watercolor but recently she has been painting in oils, acrylics, pastels, as well as on silk, which she also marbles.
Level: Beginner – Offered: July 12 & 13 Time: 9:00am – 3:30pm Fee: $150 / $130 Members Instructor: Jo-neal Boic

Art Everyday: Journal Sketching
Picking up pen/pencil/or brush to work in a personal sketching journal on a daily basis is a way to work through periods of creative blockage. In this course, we will explore mindfulness based creative strategies to encourage us to turn down the voice of the internal critic, freeing up creativity, and enjoy both the process and the product as we journal our experiences. The basic elements of watercolor, color pencil, pen and ink wash will be covered as well as the fundamentals of layout and design to create a pleasing page. Students will be going to the UC arboretum on Sunday. Bring a brown bag lunch.Offered:June 7 & 8, Time: 9:30 – 3:00 Fee: $155 / $135 Members. Level: All Instructor: Cynthia Armstrong, Cynthia holds a graduate degree from UC Santa Cruz in Science Illustration and a Master’s in Education from Stanford University. BAY AREA, SAN FRANCISCO SHOWS YOU MIGHT NOT WANT TO MISS:
Intimate Impressionism from the National Gallery LEGION OF HONOR -Intimate Impressionism from the National Gallery of Art. Impressionist and post-Impressionist works from the National Gallery are on view. Artists included in the exhibition: Monet, Renoir, Gauguin and Degas and many others. November 09, 2013 – September 07, 2014 This jewel-sized exhibition features 23 paintings, drawings, and bronzes from SFMOMA’s internationally acclaimed collection of the work of Henri Matisse, joined by four important paintings and drawings from the collection of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Celebrating the Bay Area’s early and long-standing enthusiasm for the French artist, the exhibition traces four decades of Matisse’s career, from a Cézanne-inspired still life from the turn of the last century to his richly patterned interiors from the 1920s and 1930s. Of special note are the vibrantly colored pictures from the artist’s Fauve period, from 1905 to 1908, when Matisse first rose to prominence as a leader of modern French painting.
