Ed Penniman just finished a road trip across the Southwest from Texas to California, painting watercolors along the way. While in Texas he attended the exhibition for Lucian Freud at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, a startlingly great artist. The Freud exhibit is in one of the most beautiful museums he has seen. Then across NM to visit with renowned painter Kevin Mac Pherson at his studio in Taos in the high country (12,675 feet) to also see the colors change. Kevin was the juror for the SCAL’s 80th Statewide Landscape show. Then through AZ to Pasadena Art Museum to see the work of Edgar Payne, curated by former Juror for the Santa Cruz Art League’s 81st Annual Statewide Landscape show which Ed was the curator of. Scott is the Curator of the Crocker Museum in Sacramento. It is a wonderful exhibition with deeply researched notes, a short documentary featuring Edgar Payne. If you are interested in landscapes, it is worth the trip to see it.
