Northwest Watercolor Society: Samish Paint Out February 21-25, 2018
Still Room for You to Sign Up
Once again we are offering a five-day weekend of painting (and eating) at a beautiful camp overlooking Samish Bay in Northwestern Washington, about ninety minutes north of Seattle. We will have a relaxing getaway and a chance to work and talk with other painters and share ideas and tips. The views are majestic, including the island itself, with its oyster beds and shoreline, the surrounding waters and the San Juan Islands in the background.
The annual Winter Samish Paint Out will be held from dinner Wednesday, February 21 through breakfast on Sunday, February 25. Wed. arrival time is after 2:00 PM. No children or pets, please, and no liquor is allowed on the premises. Both beginners and experienced painters are welcome, and you do not need to be a member of the Northwest Watercolor Society to attend.
We have lots of interesting things planned for the weekend (eating, painting, visiting, eating – you get the drift).
We will be the first group up to Samish for the 2018 season, so there will be hiccups… I don’t know exactly what that means.. but I have been assured there will be heat in the cabins, power to the cabins, and running water in the lodge; the green and brown bathrooms and cabins with bathrooms. Oh and I have been assured there will be a fire in the fireplace. It was wonderful last fall – so lovely! The only thing I am sure of is wet ground so don’t do what I did and get struck (and bring your rain boots)!
I don’t know about the road and rain, and flooding and tornadoes, and snow and hail and earthquakes and all the unknowns that could happen, but I do know I want to see the camp and the winter up there. If you are game, and I think most of you are, you are invited to attend this event. You will want to pack for the weather. If you are willing to share your cabin or e-cabin please let me know, that helps a lot for planning..
If you want to attend, please fill out the registration form and mail it with a check to the address at the bottom of the form. I’ve had lots of inquiries already, so please get your registration back to me ASAP so you don’t miss out! If you have questions about the weekend, I can be reached by email at hulce6@aol.com.
Lodging and all meals are included in the cost.
The remaining available cabins have beds in them with a short walk to shared bathrooms. There are enough cabins so everyone can have his or her own. The cabins have cots for four to six people, so if you want to room with friends, that’s possible. Each camper should provide bedding. The standard cabins are basic – heat, lights, and cots with mattresses. Dress for the northwest – cool, misty, hot (not likely), sunny, whatever! Bring enough paper and other supplies to last the weekend – there are no nearby art stores.
Registration money is due with your registration form. See registration form for details. Checks should be made out to Northwest Watercolor Society, and can be sent to me at 5953 34th Avenue SW, Seattle WA 98126. Admission is limited, so we suggest you sign up as soon as possible.
Before camp starts I’ll send an e-mail to all registrants giving directions and a map to the camp along with other information that might prove helpful.
Hope you can come again this year!
