Bonnie Walter:
Bess was an inspiration to us all. Her creativity was evident in her wonderful paintings, and even more so, in her life. Her personal connection with everyone she met made each of us feel special.
Bess’s qualities were and are a rich example for which I strive in my own life. As everyone else, I will never forget Bess; she was one of a kind.
Thank you, Bess, for the privilege of being in your life.
Aimée Nelson:
The last time I saw Bess (Emily Clark’s memorial at the Arboretum in 2012) her comment was, “Oh, everything is good with me. I just don’t seem to be able to figure out how to exit the stage.” This was followed by her lovely laugh to herself.
I don’t think I’ve known anyone Bess’s equal in charm and positivity. Thank you for being you, Bess. You have been very important in my life.

Dale Johnson:
Bess was a warm and constructive presence at critique sessions of the SC Watercolor Society. Even after her eyesight deteriorated to the point where it was difficult for her to paint, she still managed to find inspiration with her brush and brought the results for us to enjoy. We have missed her companionship over the past few years since her disability prevented her from joining us, but warm memories of her contributions to the Society will not fade. It was a great pleasure to know and experience her art.
