Santa Cruz Art League’s 84th Annual Statewide Landscape Exhibition Guest Curator, Ed Penniman is pleased to announce that painter and teacher, David A. Leffel has agreed to be the juror for the next annual “Statewide” painting show in Spring of 2014.
Penniman has brought high profile jurors to SCAL to carry on the tradition that was established in 1928. Recent jurors have included Scott Shields, Curator of the Crocker Museum; Author, Nancy Boas, (Society of Six and recently, David Park, A Painter’s Life); Richard Mayhew Member of the National Academy who has paintings in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC and others; popular painter and educator Kevin MacPherson; Jean Stern, Curator of the Irvine Museum and others.
In the hey day of the exhibition famous California artists Armin Hansen, Mary DeNeale Morgan, William Ritchel, Phil Dike, Millard Sheets, Gunnar Widforss, Louis Siegrist (Society of Six), Selden Gile (Society of Six) and many other’s who are highly collectible today showed their artwork in this competition. Ed Penniman’s Grandmother, a watercolor painter, started the show with local artists Margaret Rogers and Cor deGaver at the Casa Del Rey Hotel across from the Casino on the Main Beach in Santa Cruz.
