“Sanke Journal”. The background paper and journal pages are iris papers cast at the studio and also a molded koi & watercolor one. It was quite an engineering project as it is about three inches off the surface of its mounting. Pat
Pat Michaud Towery will again be participating in Santa Cruz Cultural Council’s 2012 Open Studios Art Tour coming this October. Be sure to stop by and enjoy her exhibit: South County, Oct. 6th & 7th and Encore Oct 20th & 21st. in the 17th Ave Studios Complex.
Pat’s comments on her Open Studio:
‘For the past twenty plus years I have participated in the Open Studios event with mixed media, watercolor and handmade paper works. The event is always several months worth of preparation, anxious moments and at times sheer panic. But in the end it’s worth it when many visitors stop by the studio, someone says, “How DID you do that?” or take home a piece of art work they have just purchased.
Over the last three years my studio has been at the 17th Avenue Studios complex in Live Oak. The 35 plus studios are scattered throughout a group of industrial buildings some of which have historical roots in the community. My studio is located in building two with six other artists and it’s never dull!
For the 2012 Open Studios I will be exhibiting mixed media work that is a combination of handmade paper and watercolor and is a series of Japanese Koi Journals. I will be demonstrating the handmade paper processes along with watercolor painting and how I combine them.’
